These dogs are an intelligent breed that requires firm and consistent training to get the best out of them. They have a willful mind that requires the understanding of who is the pack leader. Naturally a hunting dog with strong hunting instincts so careful training is required with small household pets. Huskies don't make the best of guard dogs as they do love human contact. They are known for having good temperaments and make a good family pet as long as daily obedience training is in place. They don't like to be left alone for long periods and enjoy daily exercise. Huskies tend to howl rather than bark, sometimes just for the enjoyment of it!
They do need a healthy balanced diet and are not fussy eaters.
Huskies need a good amount of exercise, they were bred for pulling sledges and have an incredible amount of stamina. They can have a tendency to not come back if let off the lead to run, purely from the instinctive drive to keep going. Your Husky could be miles away before it looked back to realise you were no where to be seen.
Not a massive amount of grooming required. Their coats remain quite clean. They may need attention when malting but otherwise a quick brush each week is usually enough.
