General Description

Compact terrier-type dog. Characteristic bushy eyebrows and monkey face. Most commonly black with grey around the face and chest.

General Health

Small bone structures can be delicate, so exercise should be supervised. Regular checks are advised for potential eye problems.

Hereditary Illnesses

Puppies born with a cleft palate is not uncommon.

Character and Temperament

Intelligent, lively and confident, but also strong-willed, quick tempered and fearless. They can be very affectionate however may need supervision with young children. Affenpinschers enjoy being with people and are good companions

Food

Affenpinschers can become fussy eaters if given too many treats. They can overeat if allowed.

Exercise

A good daily walk is recommended. They are very active and require a reasonable amount of exercise.

Grooming

Light moulting. Should be groomed from a young age to get accustomed.

Origin

Originally used to hunt vermin in Germany. They are known to have existed in the 17th century.
