Has a mainly white coat that is speckled heavily with black giving a blue appearance. Also brown spots and tan markings on the head/ face. Medium sized with long backs and short legs. They are smooth coated.
There are no known major health problems for the Basset Bleu de Gascogne other than possible food allergies and a potential suffering from gastric torsion (twisting of the bowel).
They are not known to suffer from any hereditary diseases.
They are generally of a happy temperament, some being more shy than others. Can be high spirited and affectionate.
It is advised that these dogs eat two small meals a day rather than one large one to avoid any potential bowel problems.
Basset Bleu De Gascogne require plenty of excerise
Their coats are designed for low maintenance and a simple brush occasionally is all that is required.
From France, the Basque region of Gascogne, these dogs were bred to be pack dogs used for hunting. They had a great sense of smell and strong stamina making them suitable to hunt wolves, deer and even wild boar.
