German Pointer (Wire Haired)

General Description

The German Wirehaired Pointer is a medium to large-sized griffon type breed of dog developed in the 19th century in Germany for versatile hunting. It became a leading gun dog in Germany in the later part of the 20th century

Character and Temperament

Intelligent, Affectionate, Willful, Friendly, Loyal, Active

German Pointers have high energy levels and will need plenty of exercise – over 2 hours ideally per day.

The dense, wiry coat of the German Wirehaired Pointer requires minimal grooming. It should remain clean with regular brushing. The coat sheds lightly year-round. Bathe him only as needed.

German wirehaired pointers were bred in Germany in the late 1800s to be hardy, versatile gun dogs that could scent, point and retrieve in the harshest of climates.
