Schnauzer

General Description

Schnauzers have been described as trustworthy with children. They are very intelligent and can become bored easily. They are also very energetic and highly spirited, which, when coupled with boredom, can lead to unwanted and destructive behavior. They are easily trained and deeply loyal to their owner.

General Health

Schnauzer, which has an average lifespan of 10 to 12 years, suffers from minor health issues such as Osteochondrosis Dissecans (OCD), hypothyroidism, and gastric torsion. This breed is also prone to canine hip dysplasia (CHD), a serious health concern.

Character and Temperament

Schnauzer has a loving and kind temperament, however, they can be a stubborn breed and have a natural protective guarding instinct so early socialisation is a must to ensure good interactions with other dogs and humans alike.

Exercise

Schnauzers are an energetic breed and require at least two long walks per day or 30 to 60 minutes of vigorous exercise in the backyard.

Origin

Schnauzer is a working breed of dog developed in the 17th century in Germany
